RE: Tires

If you search this Forum for `Galaxy' then search the results for `tires' there are four responses already.
Actually I did do a search prior to posting this. I went through several pages of stuff that was either non related or did not answer my question. Also, a search using Google did not really turn up anything so I thought I'd ask here.

Tires

Hey all, I am looking to purchase some new tires for my TT and had pretty much made up my mind with D rated Goodyear Marathons as I've heard allot of good things about them. When I went to the dealer, he asked if I had heard of Galaxy brand tires. He went on to say they were every bit a good as the Marathons however they just started making lightweight trailer tires. He told me they primarily make heavy duty trailer tires and tires for forklifts. Has anyone heard of Galaxy tires, if so are they good or bad???

RE: cell phone plans and coverage while in the U.S.

Are these throw away phones also a solution for US travelers in Canada?
I don't see why not. I purchased mine about three trips ago while in the US and just reload the card every time I cross the boarder. There are lots of places here in Canada you can buy throw away phones.

RE: cell phone plans and coverage while in the U.S.

Hi thanks to all. We must maintain our same ph.# due to aging parents. We have had telus Talk North America in the past and had great luck with it. Just didn't want to buy a phone and commit to contract with tech. about to change. Thanks again
Here's what we did...it takes a little configuration and planning but it worked well for us. I went to Texas in August for two months and purchased a reloadable throw away cell phone to use while I was there. I purchased it over the net and had it shipped to us prior to leaving. Here in Canada, I have my home phone with with Shaw and subscribe to unlimited anytime calling within North America.
Basically I call forwarded my home number to the throw away so when people called me at home, it would forward them to the cell in Texas for free as I have unlimited anytime calling.

RE: TV reception question....

Where can one purchase a "converter" box? And does one still need a "converter" box, when using the standard crank antenna, if the TV is a brand new LCD flat pannel???

RE: What do you like to use for leveling?

I guess we have been very lucky, I've never had to level my unit in the 5 years camping so I don't carry anything anymore. The most I've been out so far is at most 1 or 2 degrees which is hardly anything IMO. When I did carry something I had 4 1/2 ton bottle jacks.

RE: funny DURO tire story

I am coming to the "life's end" of my Duro tires and was planning on going with Goodyear Marathon's as I thought they were the best. If they are not, which ones should I go with for a 30 foot Coachmen Cascade TT??

Awning out of Alignment

I was putting the awning away the other day and noticed it did not appear to close all the way. It rolled up but the awning did not align with the arms on the trailer stopping it from closing fully. I had to climb up the ladder and push everything towards the front of the unit to get everything to line up and close.
Does anyone know how to adjust it so I don’t have to do this every time??

RE: Used Silicone on my slide, now it won't work!!!!

Maybe it would be a good idea to maintain your TT in accordance with the owners manual rather than what is said by others on this site!!!
If I had and owners manual I would used it. I only ask questions on this site when I can't find the answer anywhere else.
The trailer is completely level as it is still parked on my pad. The stab jacks are not located anywhere near the slide however they too were out as I was still de-winterizing it. I used a level yesterday and confirmed the slide is not out of alignment, it definately was the lube.

RE: Used Silicone on my slide, now it won't work!!!!

My dealer told me NOT to use silicone spray. There is a dry lubricant made especially for slides. I don't remember the mane but any RV dealer should have it. It is in a spray can.
I too spoke with the local dealer who told me that Silicone lube can cause your slide to stick and can attract dirt. He told me that they have a lube specifically for slides that cost $8.00 a can.
As for the alignment issue, I am 100% sure it is not that. I opened my slide to clean out my trailer for camping that weekend, closed it to go camping then realized I forgot to lube it. I then re-opened the slide, lubed it with Silicone spray lube and tried to close it but ran into this current issue.
At first I thought the batteries must be low from all the opening and closing but I left the generator on overnight at the campsite to charge them but it still would not close in the morning with out assistance.

RE: Used Silicone on my slide, now it won't work!!!!

I don't think that it is out of alignmetn as it worked fine prior to using the Silicone spray. I will check it though just to be sure...

Used Silicone on my slide, now it won't work!!!!

After much reading, I decided to lubricate my slide with Silicone spray as per the majority of posters on this site. Now it will slide out but not back in. It seems to get stuck at the top end on that little ramp requiring me to go outside and give it a helping hand. My questions is, what do I need to do to remove the "lube" so i can use something else in order to try and make it work again.

RE: Hooking up Batteries

Next time only poll the guys on your side of the family, the ones who said to connect the batteries in series. Forget about polling your inlaws who wanted them in paralle.
That's funny, I'll have to make sure the father-in-law hears about your post!!!
I am fortunate enough to have two 6 volt deep cycle batteries (about 2 years old) as well as one, newer, came with the trailer "group 24" 12 volt. I do not have any issue with purchasing another 12 volt should they be significantly better but if the two 6's will do close to the same job....
Reason I am changing is we went out last year with the group 24 and basically ran it near dead prior to the end of the night due to some nessessary nocturnal medical equipment. In the end, I had to run booster cables from my truck to the battery and let it run for about 4 hours to try and charge it. It worked but I really don't want to do that again!! If the two 6 volts do not work, then I'll look into a generator as we do not dry camp a whole lot.

Hooking up Batteries

Sorry if this has alreay been posted, I did a search but kept coming up with error messages.
I have two 6 volt deep cycle batteries I would like to use in my TT. Upon “polling the guys” in the family, a fair amount of rather heated discussion with widely differing opinions arose.
Some say that, hooking up your batteries in parallel is the only way to go as it increases you amp hours. The other side says that hooking up in series is far better as there is less room for one battery to “take” down the other and that you will have just as much amp hours.
All I really want to know is what is the beast way to hook them up for dry camping (no hook-ups) prior to me leaving for the long weekend next Thursady.
Thanks

Walking on TT Roof

Does anyone know how much weight an 03 Coachmen 26 foot TT will support?? I need to clean the roof this year and am unsure of it will support my weight.

RE: Unit dry weight or curb weight?

Ultimately, the best way to figure this out accurately, is to stop at a weigh scale while outbound on your next trip. If they do not have a lot of trucks lined up I found that most of them did not mind me running over their scale quickly.
I weighed mine on both the outbound fully loaded as well as the return home with full holding tanks trip. I was literally shocked at how much waste actually weighs…it literally made me re-consider our eating habits when I realized how much biological weight we disposed of in one weekend.

Hauling a TT with 2 Seadoo's

Not sure if this is the right place as it is not a specific mod for the travel trailer but I could not find anywhere else that would apply.
When we camp, we currently travel with a Seadoo in the back of our truck for recreational fun while towing a 30 foot TT. In order to resolve the dilemma of not being able to tow 2 trailers, I made a small jetski dolly on wheels that rolls into the back of the truck box. When we get to the camp site, I drop the TT and hand cart the shop dolly out of the truck to the waters edge to launch the Seadoo. Sort of the same idea of a quad.
It's a slick set-up that works really well....the problem is we are in the market for another one. This means I will need to re-configure the dolly to carry two. I have several ideas on how to do this however, assuming I can't be the only one, I though I would poll the masses to see what you may have come up with.
